Northland’s Marlin Alley so mesmerised American writer Zane Grey back in the day he dubbed it “Angler’s El Dorado” because the sea there teemed with fierce, fighting marlins. We think this beer echoes the era with late additions of Nectaron and Idaho 7 in tandem with dry-hopped Talus and Nelson Sauvin for a tantalising, nuggety brew. Bright with a lean malt base, a touch of rye and balanced bitterness, it’s superb whether you’ve been battling fighters from the deep or watching the waves lap the shore.
