The creation of the Gulden Draak Smoked goes back to the ancient tradition of drying malt: smoking malt. This provided a smoked touch to the malt, which you also had in the beer afterwards. This typical smoky flavor was lost over the years as the drying techniques for the malt were made considerably more efficient. The use of smoked malt in combination with the specialty of Brouwerij Van Steenberge gives a spectacular result: heavy quality beer of top fermentation with secondary fermentation in the bottle, baptized as the Gulden Draak Smoked. The smoked malt in the recipe creates a velvety, roasted taste in the beer.
